so a good singer ではなく so good a singer という語順になる理由

 「大体において、口調を整えるためと考えられる。弱勢の不定冠詞を間に入れて、―×―(強弱強)にしたものであろう。」(『英文法解説』p115)

 

(1) too/as/so + 形容詞 + a + 名詞

  • It's too good a story to be true.
  • It was as pleasant a day as I have ever spent.
  • I've never known so wet a summer.

(2) how / however + 形容詞 + a + 名詞

  • You can hardly imagine how painful a sight it was.
  • Traveling on however humble a scale is expensive in Scotland.

(3) quiteとhalfがつく場合

  • That's quite a different matter.
  • We live half a mile / a half mile away from here.
